Training
The Department of Fisheries has signed MoU with the country’s significant research organization, Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI). Each year 3rd year students get training on their activities superficially as well as become motivated on fisheries related job. In the year 2019, 3rd year students of the department got acquainted with the following topics at BFRI:

  • Riverine fisheries of Bangladesh: conservation and management practice
  • Freshwater pearl production
  • Brood stock management, breeding techniques of carps and catfishes
  • Marine and coastal fisheries resources
  • Development of breeding and culture technology of endangered fish species
  • Fisheries resources, potential and constraints
  • Farm visit to ‘Reliance Aqua Farm’, Mymensingh.

Seminar/workshop
The department organized a number ofseminars on paramount fisheries related topic on the eve of important occasion such as ‘National Fish Week’. Both national and international speakerswere invited in these events to motivate and interact with students.

Fresher’s Reception and Farewell Party
All the new-comers(1st year B.S. students) are being welcomed by the department cordially. 2nd year students organizes this colourful fresher’s reception event with great fervour and enthusiasm. Also, the passing out MS students are honoured by crest and flower on the same occasion.

Picnic
The department organizes annual day-long picnic every year, generally in the winter period- month of January or February each year. It is entirely a pleasure trip to foster the relationship betweenteachers and students. The third year (3rd year) B.S. students are responsible to arrange the picnic activities. The picnic spots are usually selected near to Dhakaas it is day-long trip. The department successfully organized picnic in Gazipur, Sylhet, Sonargoan region etc mentioned below-

Study Tour

From the beginning of establishment, every year, the Department of Fisheries has been organizing several study tours as a part of their course curriculum. Students can achieve practical knowledge in culture, breeding, management, processing and marketing of fish and shrimp in such trips. They visited different government and non-government organizations, fish and shrimp farms, hatcheries, feed mill, fish landing centre, dry fish processing area, turtle farming, life fish aquarium, and hill aquaculture in the south-east part of Bangladesh.

Sports

The teachers and students of the department have been taking part in different events of sports (indoor and outdoor) organized centrally by the University of Dhaka. The departmental Football and Cricket teams participated in the inter-departmental tournaments. Also students participated in an intra-departmental indoor game. Associate Professor Dr. Shankar Chandra Mandal is in charge of sports in the department now.
